What Are Dentures?
Dentures, often referred to as artificial teeth, are one of the tooth replacement options we offer at Amores Dental in Miami, Florida. There are several things that can cause tooth loss in adults. For some, it’s simply a natural part of aging. Others have tooth decay, gum disease, or sustain trauma to their face. No matter what has caused your tooth loss, dentures can help you get your smile and confidence back.
When you are missing teeth, everyday tasks become a chore. You may not smile as much because you’re embarrassed by the gaps. Missing teeth affect your ability to speak clearly and can make you look older than you are because your face begins to sink.
On average, dentures cost between $650 to $4,000. Most dental insurance plans will cover a portion of dentures and related procedures. Our friendly office staff will work with your provider to determine coverage. We will provide you with a detailed quote that shows what insurance covers and what your portion is before we move forward with treatment.
We accept a variety of payment options, including cash, check, credit/debit cards, and Flexible Spending Accounts. We also offer financing through CareCredit and Lending Club for patients who qualify. This will allow you to get the treatment you need and allow you to structure your payments so that they fit in your budget.
Common Materials Used For Dentures
When it comes to dentures, there are several different materials that may be used:
Porcelain
Acrylic
Acrylic is the most common material used for dentures. This is a plastic, gum-like material that can be molded based on the shape of your jaw. Advances in dental technology have made acrylic dentures more durable and long-lasting. Plus, they weigh less and cost less than porcelain. The primary disadvantage of acrylic dentures is that they may need to be replaced every 5 to 8 years.
Metal
Finally, we offer dentures made of flexible materials, which are the most advanced and promise several benefits. First, there are no metal hooks required to hold the denture in place. This makes the dentures look natural and aesthetically pleasing. The flexibility of the material makes it look more natural and reduces the risk of wear and tear/breakage. Finally, as a general rule, flexible dentures do not cause allergic reactions.
4 Types Of Dentures
At Amores Dental, we offer four types of dentures. The appropriate one depends on your needs and goals.
Partial Dentures
If you are missing some teeth, but still have some healthy teeth, we may recommend partials. We offer both removable and fixed options.
Removable partials are designed to replace some teeth in your upper or lower arch and can be removed/replaced easily. Partials must be removed before bed and placed in a solution for cleaning. We offer this option for patients who do not qualify for implant-supported options.
Removable partials are made with acrylic and consist of a pink base with artificial teeth attached. It will have at least 2 metal or flexible plastic clips that attach to the surrounding teeth.
Fixed partials , or implant-supported bridges, also replace several missing teeth. A traditional dental bridge requires the support of healthy teeth on each side of the gap, while an implant-supported bridge requires the placement of dental implants for the bridge to attach to. A fixed partial is only removable by the dentist.

Implant-Based Dentures
Finally, we offer two types of implant-based dentures: implant-supported, which are removable, and overdentures, which are permanent.
Implant Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures require the placement of at least 2 dental implants. These are more stable than traditional dentures. However, they still must be removed at night for cleaning and to allow your gums to rest.
Overdentures
Implant-supported overdenture is a type of detachable denture associated with dental implants. The implants are designed with a unique mechanism that allows the denture to click into place, fastening it securely. This differs from a traditional denture, which rests on the gum tissue.

Also, don’t neglect the rest of your mouth. Take the time to brush your gums, tongue, and the top of your mouth. This will prevent the growth of bacteria.
Brushing
You will need a special denture brush and cleaner designed for dentures. Regular toothpaste can damage them over time.
Soaking
Soaking deep cleans your dentures and keeps them from drying out overnight. Denture cleaners are designed to kill bacteria. Make sure to follow the directions on the package, as some are not designed to soak overnight. If this is the case, you should place them in water after cleansing to keep them from warping.
